2 Ingredient Crockpot Yogurt

A crockpot FULL of delicious, probiotic-filled ORGANIC yogurt for the price of a Frappachino. Yes, please! With only 2 ingredients and 2 kitchen tools you could probably make this right now! Yogurt is packed with GOOD bacteria, aka probiotics, which are vital for a healthy gut! Not only is this a delicious breakfast or snack, but you can feel good knowing you are giving your tummy and immune system some love with every bite!
Getting Started with your Yogurt!
I own two crockpots. One is for regular cooking, the other for yogurt only. It is not necessary to have an exclusive crockpot, but I have one just to make sure there is no cross contamination. For this lovely DIY project you will need:
-
- A large crockpot- My crockpot is 6qts
- Thermometer- I use a meat thermometer
- Gallon of milk
- Single serving size of plain yogurt (regular or greek) *Some people also use a capsule of probiotic instead of the single serving cup. I personally have not tried this yet.
- large bath towel
Let’s Do this!
- Turn on crock pot to HIGH.
- Dump entire gallon of milk into crockpot.
- Cover and let cook until temperature reaches 180 degrees (this usually takes 2 1/2 hours). Use your thermometer to check temperature. This will kill any bacteria that can be harmful.
- Once the temperature reaches 180 degrees, turn crockpot off. (Unless you want another This Is Us even on your hands! We love you Jack! Too soon?)
- Remove pot from heating element/cooker (this will make it cool faster) and let cool down to 120 degrees. Check it after an hour and then every 30 min till it reaches this temperature.
- At 120 degrees, stir in single serving cup. This is adding the good, not-going-to-kill-you bacteria.
- Place back in heating element, cover with lid and a bath towel and let sit on counter overnight. I know this sounds gross but this is what thickens it and makes the probiotic! *Make sure this is in a warm place. If it is too cool, it may not thicken.
- In the morning, put pot in fridge to cool for few hours. Stir, scoop and enjoy how awesome you are for making yourself healthy on the cheap!
I make 2 crockpots full when meal prepping. The first batch I put in small jars for my hubby. Then I fill up recycled jelly jars with my second batch for the kiddos to enjoy. My hubby loves this in the mornings. He grabs the small ball jar from the fridge, drops in some honey and he’s on his way. I love it because it’s only 2 ingredients and I get a crockpot full of organic yogurt for about $7!
